Reinventing Traditional Businesses Using New Media & The Internet

Class Description:

This course takes an integrated case study and hands on analytical approach to the design of new services that leverage new media and Internet technologies to reinvent traditional businesses. By examining Hong Kong’s traditional industry sectors, students will design and develop new solutions utilizing new media and Internet tools to develop an actual startup business leveraging Hong Kong’s traditional industry sectors.

Through numerous case studies, the course presents examples of how leading companies at the forefront of their respective industries are able to grow through investments in technology. Students will be exposed not only to the “front facing” elements of a business such as sales, marketing and branding but also how new media can meaningfully add value to other critical business functions such as recruiting and training, operations, finance and manufacturing. This course is group project-based and will be supported by lectures, workshops, seminars, tutorials and critiques.
